Understanding Your Injectable Ketamine Vial

Two parts of your vial label

Your vial has two different sections:

  1. Ingredients (what’s in each mL)

  2. Signature Note (how much to inject and how often)

1. Ingredients = what’s in each 1 mL

Example: ketamine HCl 100 mg/mL + hydroxocobalamin 250 mcg/mL + pyridoxine 4 mg/mL

This is the formula for the liquid, not how much liquid is in the vial.

The vial volume (for example, 2.5 mL) is the total liquid in the vial.

2. Signature Note = how to use it

Example Signature:

  • Inject 0.6 mL (60 mg) subcutaneously every 3–7 days x3.

  • Do not exceed 60 mg every 3–7 days.

  • Do not refill for 9 days.

This tells you:

  • How much to inject: 0.6 mL (yours will differ)

  • How often: every 3–7 days, for 3 injections (yours will differ)

  • When a refill can be ordered: After 9 days from shipment (yours will differ)

Example 2: If your RX says "inject 80 mg every 7 days x3"

  • This means one injection of 80 mg every 7 days, for a total of three doses. Do not exceed 80 mg within any 7-day period

Important Details

  • Your dose is based on the mL in the Signature Note, not the “100” in “100 mg/mL.”

  • Vials come in sizes of 1.7 mL, 2.5 mL, or 3.4mL. This is the amount of liquid in the vial.

  • Most vials are multi-dose. They contains enough medication for 2–3 sessions depending on your specific dose. After each session, store the vial safely for your next use.

  • It's possible you may need to take liquid from 2 vials to fill 1 syringe.

  • Only discard remaining liquid after all sessions in your prescription are complete
