Switching to Mindbloom From a Ketamine Clinic: How Dosing Works
If you've had ketamine treatment before — IV infusions, intramuscular (IM) injections, Spravato, or another at-home program — this article explains how Mindbloom approaches your dose, why doses don't transfer one-to-one between treatment types, and how your clinician will personalize your plan.
Will Mindbloom match the dose I was getting at my clinic?
Not exactly — and that's intentional.
We start everyone at a weight-based dose. Because you've done this before, your clinician may start you higher than a first-time client. We don't start above that until we've seen how you tolerate it. Your clinic knows how you respond; our clinicians don't yet, so that first evaluation is a step we don't skip.
From there, most people get to the dose that works well for them within three sessions.
Why doesn't my clinic dose translate directly to Mindbloom?
The number of milligrams is only part of the story. How ketamine enters your body — the route of administration — changes how much of it actually reaches your bloodstream (this is called bioavailability) and how the experience unfolds.
Each route absorbs differently:
Sublingual tablets are absorbed through the tissue under your tongue. A meaningful portion of the dose is not absorbed, so tablet doses are numerically higher than injectable doses that produce a comparable experience.
Subcutaneous (SQ) injection — what Mindbloom offers for injectable programs — is absorbed gradually from the tissue just under the skin. It delivers substantially more of the dose to your bloodstream than tablets, as a single bolus.
Intramuscular (IM) injection, used at some clinics, absorbs faster and more completely than subcutaneous injection.
IV infusion, used at ketamine clinics, delivers the entire dose directly into your bloodstream — typically over a 45-minute infusion rather than all at once.
Because absorption differs this much by route, comparing milligram numbers across routes is misleading. Two people can receive the identical milligram dose and respond differently depending on the route. A 100 mg IV infusion, a 100 mg IM injection, a 100 mg subcutaneous injection, and a 100 mg tablet dose are four different experiences.
This is why Mindbloom does not provide dose "conversions" from your previous treatment. What your clinician aims to match is the depth and therapeutic effect of your experience — not the milligram number from your clinic.
What dose will I start at?
Your clinician sets your starting dose at your first consult, based on your weight, health history, and previous ketamine experience.
Everyone starts at a weight-based dose.
If you have prior ketamine treatment experience, your clinician may start you higher — up to 60 mg for injectable (subcutaneous) programs.
Mindbloom's maximum dose is 100 mg.
Most people reach the dose that works well for them by their third session.
Your clinician adjusts your dose between sessions based on how you respond, so your plan evolves with you.
I was on a high dose at my clinic. Is Mindbloom still a fit?
Often, yes — but this is exactly the conversation to have with a clinician rather than guessing from numbers. Because routes absorb so differently, a higher clinic dose doesn't automatically mean at-home treatment can't reach a comparable therapeutic depth. Your clinician will review your treatment history and give you a direct, honest answer about what your dosing plan would look like.
It's also worth asking yourself what you want from switching: replicating your clinic experience exactly, getting a better outcome, or trading some intensity for the comfort, convenience, and lower cost of treating at home. Your clinician can help you think this through.
Who can answer my specific dosing questions?
Your Mindbloom clinician. Every program begins with a video consult with a licensed clinician who reviews your full medical and treatment history, answers your dosing questions directly, and determines the plan that's safe and effective for you.
Our Client Success and Care teams can explain how the program works, but only your clinician can discuss your personal dose.
What if I meet with the clinician and decide not to move forward?
There's very little risk in finding out:
If your clinician determines you're not eligible for treatment, you receive a full refund.
If you're approved but decide not to proceed, you'll receive a refund minus the $150 clinician consultation fee — you only pay for the clinician's time.
So if your main question is "can Mindbloom work for someone with my dosing history?", the clinician consult is the fastest way to get a definitive answer from a licensed professional.
