Who should I ask to be my Peer Treatment Monitor (PTM)?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

For many, choosing a PTM is straightforward—it might be a partner, parent, friend, roommate, or another close connection.

For others, the choice may be less obvious. You might not have a nearby support network, or some people in your life may not be supportive of psychedelic medicine. Fortunately, there are alternative options to consider, such as:

  • Psychedelic therapy facilitators or “trip sitters”

  • Neighbors or friendly acquaintances

  • Professionals on platforms like Care.com

No matter who you choose, an ideal PTM should be:

  • Trustworthy: Whether through a personal connection or previous vetting

  • Supportive and Focused: Willing to hold space for you and remain fully focused on your needs

  • Open or Non-Judgmental: Accepting of psychedelic healing or, at minimum, non-judgmental

  • Caring and Patient: Able to be patient, present, and caring as you navigate your journey
